Junk Yard Dogs - CrossFit Kids

We like to call our CrossFit Kids program "Junk Yard Dogs" because we're all about kids and teens coming to the gym, getting strong and scrappy, howling up a storm, and sending them back into the world prepared to kick butt. Our Junk Yard Dog (JYD) Program evolved out of our extensive work with high school and middle school athletes prior to the opening of The Power House in December 2013. State of the art youth strength and conditioning programming is our specialty, and it is what we are most passionate about.

 

JYD is not simply a scaled down version of our CrossFit adult classes, it is strength and conditioning for the developmental needs of the youth population (neurological, cognitive, motor). Specifically created for kids and teenagers, our program helps youth athletes reach their goals while being less prone to injury and developing a lifelong love of fitness. This program delivers measurable results through fun and engaging workouts while ensuring that our youth are developing into well-rounded athletes.

 

At Side Door CrossFit, we can also tailor our Junk Yard Dogs programs to provide both general physical preparedness (GPP), as well as sports-specific excellence. Our JYD classes are the PERFECT compliment to a young athlete's team and sports training, preventing overuse injuries and burnout.

 

Workouts consist of constantly varied, functional movements that deliver a fitness that is broad, inclusive and general and scale-able for any participant at any level. What does that mean? It means that, for the most part, no two workouts are the same, so kids and teens never get bored and the novelty of each workout keeps them excited about participating.

 

The functional movements involve exercises that are fundamental to all things that kids need to do in real life-pull, push, run, throw, climb, lift and jump. All of the movements are taught safely and effectively under the close supervision of thoroughly trained Junk Yard Dogs coaches.

 

When fitness is defined as broad, inclusive and general it means that participants will become well- rounded athletes who will be better at any and every sport that they play because we don’t coach them to be good at just one thing.

 

Our workouts will increase physical competence in 10 fitness domains: Cardiovascular and Respiratory Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy.

 

With workouts that are scale-able, Junk Yard Dogs can equally benefit a kid who is less active or an accomplished athlete by tailoring workouts so that each participant is challenged just enough to deliver measurable results and personal athletic progress.
